Captain of the Blog

As Webmaster I am kind of the leader at the helm steering this blog and guiding it to its destination. And as a family historian I am hunting for answers to the questions unknown.

My five year mission: To find sources and answer questions. To connect family members and help future generations. To boldly go without sleep for many many nights. I am that family man. That Historian. That Webmaster.

I am that fearless leader looking for the answers others care not to ask. Blogging my adventures and planning my conquests. Breaking walls and taking names. I am the Captain of the Blog.

Well that was fun. Dont forget to subscribe.

Wikitree

www.wikitree.com

Site of the Month

Totally free coop site where you can build your tree and manage it with a little help from some friends. unlike some sites that limit how much you can do for free or charge you for their services, WT will let you make changes as needed and help you find answers when you get stumped. Definitely a top ten site.

Ancestry

www.ancestry.com

Site of the Month

A great site for research if you can afford it. More hints than i will ever get time to look at and you can probably still build your tree for free. You have to pay to see the hints, but eventually you may be not need them as often so you can take a break if you need to and come back to it later. No one can tear your tree apart like they do on the coop sites so that's great.

Find A Grave

findagrave.com/

Site of the Month

If youre going to do a top ten list for genealogy, Find a Grave should probably be on it. Lots of memorials to find and often when you do a search for a relative, it usually comes up. Many of the members are very thorough and connect relatives to each other if they can. But there are mistakes made so take with a grain of salt.

Family Search

Family Search

Site of the Month

The first place to start researching your family tree is usually Family Search.
Lots of records at your fingertips and lots of cousins working on the same tree. Although you dont want to build your tree there, its a good starting point and a very useful site when you are short on cash. However, people who dont know what they are doing can change your family tree and mess it up and add the wrong people. Great for research. Not so good for your tree. Put it somewhere else. Ancestry is a good place to build your tree and no one can mess it up when you are not looking. These coop sites are great for collaborations, but be wary of them and keep your records elsewhere.
